Back to peptides
AICAR, explained simply
A research compound involved in how cells sense energy availability. Chemically, it is not a peptide.
Research area
Energy metabolism and endurance
How it works
Inside cells, AICAR is converted to ZMP, which activates AMPK, a regulator of glucose and fatty-acid use.
Why it matters
It is studied in relation to metabolic pathways also activated by exercise and energy restriction.
What has been observed
Some animal studies report changes in endurance and muscle metabolism. That does not mean AICAR replaces physical activity in people.
Effects and points to consider
AICAR is not approved for human therapeutic use and is prohibited in competitive sport by WADA.
Reported data
Doses and cycles are presented for information and education only; they are not prescriptions or medical advice.
